Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Hurricane Katrina damaged coins

Question
I have a collection of coins that was submerged by Hurrican Katrina.  Uncirculated sets, Proof Sets, Franklin Mint coins of all types, and other US Silver coins.  I would imagine they are now virtually worthless.  Some have rusted and turned green from corrosion.  Is there anything I can do or should I just let them be.  Thanks

Answer
Hello Mike,

I would not say they are worthless.
They should be conserved the best way you know how. You should rinse the coins that are contaminated in distilled water and pat them dry with a soft cloth.

If the proof sets are modern they will sell at less than what you paid for them. The mint sets would need to be evaluated year by year for damage and value.

For the sealed proof coin sets made after 1967 there are set buying prices. Some dealers take out the more expensive coins to sell separately, some of the coins may sell for more out of the sets anyway.
