Question
I have a number of Indian head pennies from my grandfather.  Two are 1863 and he has noted that they are bronze - they certainly don't look like the rest which are copper.  What can you tell me about these please? Thank you.

Answer
Hello,

In 1859 the USA started the Indian Head Cent. Originally Copper Nickel composition until April of 1864 then the Bronze was used which is copper tin composition.
So there were no Bronze Cents made with the 1863 date.
Can you better describe the coin for me?
Check the mottoes on the reverse and look carefully at the Indian head on the front, does it look like the Indian on the later made Indian Cent?
There were many token made in those years that resemble the cent.

Feel free to write me back as soon as you find out and I will be able to better answer your question as to what your piece is and possibly a range of value for it.
