Answer
Hi Alycia,

You can tell where a coin was minted by its mintmark.  If it has a "P" mintmark -- or if it has no mintmark -- then it was minted at the main mint in Philadelphia.  A "D" mintmark means it came from Denver.  And an "S" mintmark means it came from San Francisco.

On 1964 halves, the mintmark (if it has one), would be located on the reverse below the eagle's left claw.

After that, the mintmark (if it has one), would be located on the front, under the base of the neck.

Generally speaking, assuming your coins are circulated, the 1964's are worth about $3.50 each, the 1965-1969's are worth $1.25 each, the 1970 D-mint is worth about $10.00 (rare date), and anything after that has no added value (common).  The only exceptions would be proofs (mirrored finish) or silver versions (no copper stripe on outside edge) -- let me know if you find any of these.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
