Question
How can you tell if it is a SMS? They look the same to me. Why are the SMS
trading for a higher premium?
Hi Rick,
SMS coins came out of the Special Mint Sets produced from 1965 through 1967 when the mint did not produce Proof Coins. The coins are really semi-prooflike in appearance, not like the normal coins that were minted for circulation. Since the mintage was lower, the collector value is higher.
