QuestionHello, I have this Kennedy half dollar with the date (1776.1976) on it and I was just wondering if it was worth anything. Although my father told me it wasn't, I stil would like an experts advice. So whatever it's worth please responf so I can know. Also if it if isn't worth anything I know it will be in the distant future so please enlighten me on which year to expect this coin to be profitable.
Thanks,

AnswerHello Juanika,
This is a Kennedy Bicentennial Half dollar and it is a common coin. Only the San Francisco mint mark "s" (AT THE BOTTOM OF THE NECK) is selling at a higher value than the circulation strikes that have a "D" or no mint mark.
For this Bicentennial issue Half Dollar is Copper clad with Nickel and sell for less than $1.00 in grades from 50 to 62 on the scale that goes up to 70. If worn, scratched or marred in any way they trade at face value.
These were made at different mints and that makes them vary in price, you get a bit more for the S (San Francisco mint) if proof and more for a silver issue.
There were so many millions made that only high grade specimens and the silver issues will go up in value. It may take 50 years for a circulated coins to be worth more than $2 dollars.
