Question
I have recently come across a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel that my father had put away. I'm interested in finding out if this is the real thing or a fake. How can I find out if it is real?

Answer
Hi Roy,
As far as everyone knows, all 5 of the original mintage have been identified.  Chances are that it if a replica.  Look carefully at the date, especially the 1 of 13.  If you use a high power magnification, you might see thraces of either a 0, a 9, or an 8.
Aslo look for a seam areound the coin, on the edge.  Old time counterfeiters would make 2 halves then glue them together.
Take a look and let me knoiw how you make out.  JoeHylas@aol.com
