Question I HAVE A 1923 SILVER DOLLAR WITH A MISPRINT: "IN GOD WE TRVST" IS PRINTED ON IT. IS THIS COIN WORTH ANYTHING?
I APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND ADVICE IN THIS MATTER.
THANK YOU,
JENNIFER D.
Answer Hello Jennifer,
The Classic spelling of TRVST is correct on the coin. The Medalic artist chose the Older Spelling for stylistic purposes.
This is a very common coin. The coin grading scale goes from 1 to 70. All circulated coins fall no higher than grade 58. If your coin was ever circulated it sell for 8 to 16 dollars depending on things like how easily the word PEACE is seen on the reverse and the eagles feather details. The stronger these details show and the amount of original uncleaned surface with natural color determine the value of the coin in this price range. If the coin is absolutely uncirculated, it may sell for $25 to $30 dollars.
The artists choice of design is totally up to him or her. This coin as many to this day uses the Latin phrasing and spellings. There was no letter "U" in Latin. The letter "V" replaces it in all cases but is pronounced as the letter "U".
