Question
How do I tell the letter or minting place on a mercury dime I have several of different years I have a 1921 that if it is a D i have been told it is worth more. thank you

Answer
Dear Michael. The Winged Liberty Head, or the so called "Mercury" Head Dime was made in both the main mint at Philadelphia and at San Francisco and Denver between 1916 and 1945. The mint mark you are looking for would be found on the reverse or back side of the coin, to the left of the fasces, or the right of the "E" in the word ONE. If it was made in Philadelphia there will be no mint mark: in Denver there will be a "D", and in San Francisco an "S". Either way, 1921 is a scarce year, and is the second or third best year in this dime set. Regards and good luck. N.
