Question
I have a 2004 michigan quarter that is blank on the back exept for the raised part of the state of michigan and the rest is smooth.  Can you give me any information about this?

Answer
Hi Susan,

Without seeing the coin I would tend to believe based on your description that it is a error coin called "struck through grease".  This happens when the dies used to strike the coins is filled with grease or other debris and when the coin is struck only a portion of it appears on the coin.  This can be a common error but it might bring $10-30 or so on ebay if you sold it with a good picture.
