Question
Inherited a bunch of coins. I have the following...question: Is the value of
these coins more in selling them for their silver weight or in their value as a
collector item?

I found a site that should how to rate...these are my ratings (not sure how
good they really are)

1879-O Morgan Good
1882-S Morgan Good
1888-O Morgan Good
1882 Morgan Very fine
1887-O Morgan  Very fine
1921-D Morgan Shiny like new but with bumpy edges
1921-D Morgan Shiny seems close to perfect

Answer
Hi Mary,
You really need to have these coins looked ta and professionaly graded.  However, your descriptions give me a basis to work from.
All of these dates are "common" dates, nothing rare.  Let me explain that the value of a coin is based upon a number of factors, the first being how many were made and the second being the grade (quality) of the coin.
The coins you have had millions produced, hence the term "common".
Common date silver dollars can range in value from $8 (their silver value) to about $35 in mint condition.  On average, circulated, undamaged coins will trade for about $12 each.  It isn't until you get to uncirculated (mint condition) that the value rise substantially.
If you are nearby to my office on Long Island, you are welcome to stop by for a free appraisal.  If not, you are welcome to ship the coins insured via USPS and I will appraise and make you an offer.
Let me know how you will proceed.
