Question
HI PAPAJACK, THE NEW GOLD DOLLAR COIN HAS "IN GOD WE TRUST" ON THE EDGE. I'VE HEARD THAT SOME OF THESE COINS DO NOT HAVE "IN GOD WE TRUST" ANYWHERE AND ARE VERY VALUABLE.  TRUE?  THANKS, GAIL

Answer
Hello Gail,

The New 2007 dollars have the inscriptions moved to the edge.
This is not the first time the motto has been moved or left off US Coins. Many commemorative coins have had the legends required by law modified or omitted for arts sake.
The word Liberty does not appear on the presidential dollar coin as it does on all other circulating coins. Rather each coin represents this important value using the Statue of Liberty on the reverse"

As well some of the other inscriptions traditionally found on US Coins are moved to the edge making the coins unique.
This is where In God We Trust has been moved.

As for value if the edge is not inscribed, depends on how much you can sell them for. They seem to be a common item and I think the market does not consider it a true error coin. In fact it is missing a required operation by the mint and is useless to collectors. Collectors want a perfectly made coin with all the designs well made.

The surge in pricing you see when something is first discovered on any coin is not always an indicator of the true value but merely speculation by people.

I do not think it will be more valuable next year. There are likely many, many coins yet to be found with the edge inscription omitted.
