Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Prices of Coins
Expert: PAPAJACK - 7/11/2007
QuestionI was wondering since there are no good coin dealers in the Central PA area, if you could tell me the ballpark values of a few coins I have.
The coins are as follows;
1908 Indian Head Half Eagle (In the high MS's).
1852 Quarter Eagle, also in great condition.
1891 Indian Head Penny, near AU.
2001 Walking Liberty One Dollar, Uncirulated, Slabbed, Factory burn mark.
2001 British Proof Harry Potter One Crown.
1943 Walking Liberty Half Dollar (Near VF-45)
1922 Liberty Dollar (Good Condition with strange 4-pronged "Mint Mark".
2000 Proof Colorized Walking Liberty.
1900-O Liberty Dollar Slabbed MS-64.
AnswerHello Alexander,
Coins are valued on a scale from 1 to 70. And on how rare a coin is. With no or little experience it is sometimes easier letting a collector look at them, and even most coin shops will help for free on one or two pieces.
1891 Indian Head Penny, near AU.
This is common and is valued from 1 to 5 dollars in all circulated grades.
1943 Walking Liberty Half Dollar (Near VF-45)
These Silver Half Dollars are selling retail from $7.00 to $8.00 each.
1900-O Liberty Dollar Slabbed MS-64.
This sells from $60 to $70 for the New Orleans mint. If it is graded by major third party companies like PCGS or NGC write me back it will be more. If it is slabbed by a low grade coin company it will sell for less since they do not guarantee the grade.
1922 Liberty Dollar (Good Condition with strange 4-pronged "Mint Mark".
Is the Mint Mark you are referring to in the rays on the reverse of the coin?
This Peace Dollar coin is so common they sell just above the silver value from $10 to $12 dollars.
1852 Quarter Eagle, also in great condition.
This two and a half dollar gold piece was made at 4 mints each having its own value.
The Philadelphia issue retails from $130 in grade 12 to $240 in almost uncirculated grades. The other mints are more valuable.
1908 Indian Head Half Eagle (In the high MS's).
This $5 dollar gold starts at $235 in grade Mint State 60, $600 in MS63 and $1000 to $3000 for grades MS64and MS65.
2001 British Proof Harry Potter One Crown
2001 Walking Liberty One Dollar,
2000 Proof Colorized Walking Liberty
These items are only worth the silver value. They are common reproductions of coins or specialty items. The price you get would depend on what a collector of the piece wants to give you above the actual melt value of the metal used in it.
