Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Rare Coin Question....

Question
Hello, I have a 1944 Mercury Dime that was stamped on a Wheat Penny. Have you ever seen a coin like this? Can you give me an estimate of what it may be worth?

Answer
Jaclyn, it's hard to tell for sure what you have without seeing the piece, but it sounds as if one possibility is a cent that had the image of a Mercury dime put onto it by a post-manufacture "strike," such as by putting a real dime on top of the cent and hitting both with a hammer (perhaps with a washcloth or something similar over the coins.  If that is the case, then it's really not worth anything as you could do it again as many times as you wanted.

If it's something else (and you'd probably have to show the piece to an expert such as a coin dealer to be sure), you might have something of value.

Hope this helped, Jim Lawniczak
