Coin and Paper Money Collecting/gold coin

Question
Hi, I have an 1857 California gold coin.  It is about a half inch tall, and is an octagon shape.  On the top of one side it says California Gold, below it says 1/2, and on the bottom there is a bear.  On the other side is a womans portrait and thirteen stars surrounding her, and the date, 1857 on the bottom.  I've never seen a coin like that before, and I'de like to know what the value would be?

The first thing before figuring out the value would be to see if it is real or not.  There are many counterfeits of these CA gold pieces and here is a website you might want to check out to see if your coin matches up with any of these counterfeits:
