Coin and Paper Money Collecting/ingot and coins value

Question
Hello, My questions are regarding a gold ingot and two coins.  The ingot is about stamp size and stamped with 18 1/2 carrot DWT 25 6/10 on one side and Parsons & Co. Assayers 1860 Col. Twenty Dol. I do realize that this is perhaps a reproduction.  I would like to know the value of each.  The coins are a 1889 Liberty Coin Dollar, and a 1776 Coin Continental Currency.  These belong at the moment to my elderly father-in-law. We were wondering about insurance value.

Answer
Cindy,

I can only assume that the Parsons and Continental pieces are modern replicas -- since originals are so exceedingly rare and since there were so many thousands of replicas of each made -- value at about a dollar apiece.

The 1889 dollar, in circulated condition, is worth about $12.00

You may want to take the ingot to a coin show to be examined first-hand, to see if it actually contains a significant amount of gold -- most likely it is just gold plated though.  Check out www.coinshows.com and www.coinworld.com for listings of coin shows in your area.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
