Question
I found a large 3 and 1/4 inch thing that looks like a large indian head penny with the date 1877 on it 21 years ago in my garden area after tearing down an old building that was built in 1927 for a cabnet builder. anyway, I was wondering if it was a large penny or just a coaster or something.

Answer
Hello Sally,

These medallions are still being made and sold. It is just a novelty item like a paper weight or caoster.

The 1877 is the rarest Indian cent and since most collectors cannot own one the market exists for these replicas.
