Question
I have a penny my granfather gave me and ive never seen anything quite like it. Thought maybe you could help. Ita a 197-d lincoln memorial with what appears to be adouble stamp on the memorial side across the right side across the the "cent" and I can also make out the letters ca reversed on the partial colums. On the front its is acroos Lincolns shoulder into the "liberty" on the front..I can also make out the letter "U" on the front. Just curious if its just a conversation piece or has any value. Thankyou

Answer
Hello Richard,

This is not considered a mint error although it could have happened there if another cent was stuck in the coin press.
It was pressed against another coin and the design was imparted to it. The lettering on this second image will be incuse instead of raised.

I have seen examples of this being sold for double die errors but these altered coins have no added value.
