Question
Hi...i was looking through my coin collection with my boyfriend and he was rather curious about a coin i have from the Philippines....On the front it has a man kneeling down with a volcano in the background and it has the words "one centavo filipinas" and on the back it has an eagle holding up a crest with the words "United States of America 1912." I know it is from when they were a territory of the U.S. ceded from Spain but thats about it...any info would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Hi Miranda,

Here's a couple web pages with info about Philippines coinage :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_peso#Coins

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coins_of_the_Philippine_peso

In 1912 they minted 3 million of these coins.  Current value in circulated condition is about $3.00

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
