Hello Larry,
Thank you for sending the pictures, I did get your photographs. I had them enhanced and enlarged. I do not think this is a “misprint coin”
I am reasonably sure this is an 1883 Liberty Nickel. If the word CENTS is missing from the other side it would prove what type it is.
As I said I enlarged the photos and overlaid the first number 8 onto the second and it fits very well indeed.
The coin was probably hit by the edge of another coin or something harder.
This coin would grade 4 of 70 points at best and has a porous surface. The value is from $1 to $4 dollars depending on type and how the other side looks.

Hello Larry,
These Barber, Liberty Head nickels were made from 1883 to 1912. So if you are sure of the last digit it can only be 1883, 1893 or 1903. If you are sure the second digit is an 8 then there are only 2 dates the 1883 and the 1893.
You can send me an image at coins@writeme.com and we may be able to further identify the coin but it is very hard using pictures. Seeing the coin in person is best.
I can give you some coin people in your area that would help for free if needed. Write me back and let me know.
