Coin and Paper Money Collecting/miss stamped penny

Question
I found a penny that hasn't been stamped. It is perfectly smooth on both sides. I weighted it and I weighted a new 2006 penny and they weighted exactly the same. This one doesn't have a raised edge which I assume is becaused it hasn't been stamped.

Answer
Hi Laura,

Your coin is a blank planchet.  There are two types.  Type 1 which does not have a raised edge and type 2 with a raised edge.  The edge is actually put on the coin before it is struck.  Both types are fairly common and bring about $3-5 per bla.
