Coin and Paper Money Collecting/please help

Question
I have a 1976 dime, that appears to have been pressed way too much.  It
has all qualities of a normal dime, except the heads side is pressed
into itself on one whole side of the coin.  It feels very light and
possibly made from a very cheap material.  It does not look real to my eye,
but then again, I'm not an avid coin collector.  any answers you could
supply would be great, thanks.

Answer
Hello John,

The coin from your description does not seem extraordinary. It just sounds like it is well struck.
There may have been extra pressure in the press or it may have been a bit thicker blank or struck after a new Obverse (heads side) die was put in the press.
These are all factors in having the coin strike up properly and letting the flat surface of the blank flow up into the smallest recesses of the dies.
The normal weight for a post 1964 Roosevelt dime is 2.27 grams. try weighing it.

I hope this information helps. Please remember to rate this answer. And check the nomination box on the rating page below any comments you may have.

Good Luck
