Coin and Paper Money Collecting/silver coins with no mint marks on them

Question
I have three silver coins that bear no mint mark:1964 silver Washington quarter, a 1946 dime, and a 1964 dime.

I also have a 1924 Peace silver dollar, and a 1950 Ben Franklin half dollar.

My question is are these worth anything, and are they a good addition to my son's collection.

Answer
Hi Lyndy,

1964 is the last year for silver coins, and they minted a LOT of them that year, so the 1964 coins' value will only be for the silver they contain -- about 60 cents for the dime and $1.50 for the quarter.

There were also alot of dimes minted in 1946, so they are not rare either.  It is the first year for the Roosevelt Dime, so you may want to hang on to that one.

1950 is a better date for Franklin Half Dollars -- If it is in like-new condition.  If visibly worn, it doesn't make a big difference.  Worn, it's worth about $6 -- uncirculated, it's worth $18-$25 or more.

1924 is a common date for Peace dollars, unless it has an "S" mintmark on the reverse, below the ONE.  If it has that, it's going to be worth $25 or mor -- without it, it's worth $9

I hope this helps,

Dan

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
