Question
i have a silver dollar certificate in my possession for almost 21 years. it is a series 1935c.  y24124733d. is this worth anything more than a dollar?

Answer
Hello Nick,

In general I can state an older piece of currency in collectable condition is worth more than face value to a collector. But to arrive at an actual value for your holdings you need to grade them prior to using a price guide. Here is an approximate retail price range for the Certificates you mention.

1935C-One Dollar Silver certificate .... $2 to $3 if in collectable condition.

Such common circulated Silver Certificates, will be difficult to generate interest in simply due to a still plentiful supply and limited demand regardless of the "catalog value."

In general for old notes:
If it is heavily circulated or part is missing I may save it as a novelty or get it to a young collector for their starting collection. there were too many printed and surviving to be in a professionals collection in less than crisp Uncirculated condition.
