Question
Hello, my dad found what looks like a gold dollar coin, same size and color, but it's slick. No head or tails, and it is also slick on the edge. I have no idea what it is or what it is worth. I was curious if it could be a new dollar that is a misprint. Please help Kristina

Answer
Hello Kristina,

The new dollar coin is the same metal since 2000, so a coin blank could come from any of these years.
The dollar coin blank itself should be 8.1 grams and 26.5 mm (1.043 in.) round and 2mm thick.
Look carefully at the edge. You should see a copper stripe going around the coin. The middle is pure copper.

Coin blanks are not really an error and sell from $1 to $5 on average.
