Coin and Paper Money Collecting/unusual dime

Question
I found a dime minted in 2004 that is copper-like in apperance... might it be worth anything?

Answer
Hi Andrea,

Your coin could be a genuine mint error which is called a "missing clad layer" where the top layer of the coin is missing leaving the copper inner core before being struck.  It could also be acid treated or damaged in some way once it left the Mint.  The real error is worth anywhere from $20-80 or more depending upon condition.  If you have a digital camera or scanner a picture would be helpful in determining if it is genuine or not.
