Question
I've always been under the impression, that U.S. proof sets should be in excellent condition. I recently purchessed a bi-centenial set. (1976). In the plastic on the face of Ike, the red felt is very prominate from the background. I don't like this. Is this conciderd o.k. ,because it came from the mint like this, or should I send it back. Also ,does it take away from the value or collectibility of a proof set if the coins are not straight in the caseing . Some are turned to the side not straight up and down like I would want. Am I being to picky, or do these traits add charachter to the coins therfore adding value to them. Any suggestions appreciated.

Answer
Hi,
The rotation of the coins nor and nothing to worry about.  However, the specks of red felt on the Ike dollar is a matter of concern.  Eventually, the coin will tarnish in those spots, something you don't want to happen.

Since the set is 28 years old you can't retun it to the mint.  However, if you recently bought it from a dealer get a replacement.
