i was told that this was hand made by my great-great grandfather in 1844 and is a tatting needle. however i have been unable to find reference to an item like this in any books. can you identify and place a value
Answer Hello Cindy. Your item looks similar to some tatting shuttles found in both Tatting Shuttles, Related Tools and Accessories by Pam Palmer and Tatting Shuttles of American Collectors by Heidi Nakayama. Your item actually look more like an industrial shuttle rather than a hand tatting shuttle, though. With your item being handmade, I couldn't put a value on it. I'm sure it has more sentimental value than monetary value, since it was made by a family member. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Barbara
