About Irene Schwall
Expertise
I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. Please note: I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing -- I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.

Experience
My expertise is in ANTIQUE sewing or needlework tools & thimbles, gold, silver, brass, ivory, bone etc. Modern thimbles are not necessarily my strong point but I may be able to help so don't hesitate to ask. I am also very well versed in the identification of Hallmarks on sewing collectibles.

Question
Irene,

The older lady who lives across the street from me wanted me to try and get an estimated value of her two antique machines.  The first one is a Standard Sewing Machine, Cleveland Ohio, Patents applied for No. 4100, 4160, 4180.  The word standard was written on a bar on the machine, that is located by your knees.

The second one is a New Home Sewing Machine, Orange Mass. USA the number 973217 was on there.  Patents- Oct 3, 1871; Sept 7, 1876; Sept. 25, 1877; etc.  there are 3 drawers on each side labeled new home on handles and a wooden hood covering.

If you could give me any information with regards to value I would greatly appreciate it.  If there are any other pieces of information I can try and find it.  They do have the manuals still if that matters.  Thank you and I look forward to your response.

Answer
Hello Andrea,
I am sorry but as I have stated many times before, I am not an expert on domestic home sewing machines. But, if you view past questions and answers you will find that I have provided links to other websites that may be of interest to you.
I will mention a few links again for ease of reference:

http://pages.sewing-machine-manuals.com

http://www.sewmuse.co.uk/american.htm

Also, if you do a web search for 'treadle sewing machines' or 'antique sewing machines' you will find many more websites that offer information on these domestic home sewing machines.

enjoy your day.
Irene
