Subject: Carousel horse and ostrich

Question
Dear sir, i inherited these two carousel animals - and wanted to know if they were worth having restored - and also insured - i have looked on several sights - and am at a loss it figure the maker out - my dad told me the ostrich was english - spooner i think,and the horse ( which has been partialy stripped at  some point) was from coney island - i would be willing to pay for an appraisal if this is a sevice you offer - thank you again

I can only see a picture of your horse.   It's a very nice carving produced around 1912 by Marcus Illions of Coney Island New York.  Illions figures are among the most popular due to their unique features.   Yours is probably worth around $8,000 to $10,000.  If you're looking to sell it, I would suggest that you leave it as-is and let the new owner restore it to his or her own liking.   If you want to send me a photo of the other piece, I'll try to identify that for you as well.   Just send the photo to the email address below.
