Question
I have a 1/2 pint pewter tankard marked as follows
James Yates 1/2 pint
LJ
G
1/2pint NR565 GR565
The tabkard is banded at the bottom not in the middle

Answer
-

Probably made by Gaskell & Chambers of Birmingham, England, around 1905. G&C took over a successor firm to James Yates, and used the trade name in their early years.

565 is a UV number (see the Verification Marks link on my website for more info), the letters above being regnal cyphers: ER (not NR) for Edward VIII and GR for George V. 565 corresponds to Cambridgeshire, where the mug (not tankard) was used.
