Collectibles-General (Antiques)/Spool Cabinet

Question
I just found an old spool cabinet at an estate sale with a large double "C" on the back.  The woman said it was an O.N.T. cabinet.  Where can I get some information on this?  Thanks so much!

Answer
Hello Kathie.  What a nice piece to have!  There is a hardcovered, coffee table type book out on spool cabinets as there are many different kinds out there.  The two Cs on the back are for Coats and Clark.  Both were independent thread makers who merged.  Don't ask me what year that was, but I'm sure you can find something on them by googling their companies.  You might also find dated trade cards for them as separate companies or as the melded company.  As far as O.N.T....that means "Our New Thread", which is what they advertised.  Periodically, spool chests and cabinets have been offered on ebay.  They are usually a hard item to ship, but you can find them for price reference.  There are companies that sell the decals for the drawers, if the piece needs restoration work.  Enjoy!  Barb
