Question
I have a West Branch Novelty Company Cedar Chest (#4248) that someone destroyed the punctired lock on and cut the hinges off.  I have tried to find the lock and hinges made by the NL Company of Rockford.  I have been unsucessful thus far. Any ideas where i can find the lock and hinges??  Any help would be certainly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dennis

Answer
Hi Dennis
Nice to hear from you
Try here for the hindges

or perhaps here.

Brettuns is a long shot but no harm in a query to them.
For your locks, I would try any of your local locksmiths.
Funny enough these older locks are still readily available.
I know that for a fact because my brother was a locksmith for many years and always did my replacements and repairs.
It occured to me also that perhaps the lock was removed because it was one of those unsafe ones that could not be opened from the inside. If thats the case you will not get a replacement.
Hope this helps

Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
