Collectibles-General (Antiques)/sewing kit

Question
I just received a plaid(red & green) egg shaped sewing kit owned by my great-grandmother. On the outside of the wooden egg it says M.Leau, inside is an ornate engraved gold thimble, stamped 8, and engraved with her name Arvilla and Nov.12, 1874 (date of her marriage), also a spool of black and white thread, could have also held a needle but it is missing. Are you familiar with one of these and do you know its value?

Answer
Hello Jane.  There are many, many types of sewing kits out there.  Condition and scarsity will have a bearing on the value.  I would need clear digital pictures of both items, individually, to be able to tell you anything about your items.  If you are able to send digital pictures to bacchino@twcny.rr.com  I'll see what I can do for you.  Barbara
