Collectibles-General (Antiques)/F.W. Muller Toy Sewing Machine

Question
I have a F. W. Muller cast iron toy sewing machine circa 1900.  It is a Model 20 from what I was told when I bought it 25 years ago.  I have also done some research on it and looks like all pictures I've seen.  It is in good to very good condition.  Black paint with gold decorative designs, all in tact.  It is usable.  The needle is in tact, also.  It is stamped legibly Made in Germany and has a serial number on the stitch plate.  I've seen these advertised for anywhere from $300 - $395.  Is this the going rate?  If so, where would I need to go to advertise my machine and sell it for the fair price?  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Bonnie,
Thank you for your query.
Yes that is about the price that the Muller sells for.  Most likely your best bet would be to sell on eBay or you could also try selling your machine through any of the antique trade magazines - there are many and they are specific to areas of the country.  Naturally you would have to pay for an advertisement.
There is also a Toy Stitcher's organization and you might be able to sell your machine through them.

My advice would be to take good, clear photographs, from different angles and describe your machine accurately noting any damage etc.

Good luck.
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
