Question
QUESTION: I have been given a Singer Sew Handy Child's sewing machine  Model No. 20.  It is a mushroom pink/tan in colour, does a chain stitch only, clamps to a table. Just wondering if you can give me an estimate of its age/date of manufacture, value etc. thankyou

ANSWER: Hello Ruth,
Can you please include a photo with this query?  Please also include an accurate condition report.
Thanks.
Irene

Ruth,
I forgot to add: Please look to see if your model has "Made in Canada" on it anywhere - usually below the Singer emblem on the base.  If so, then your model originally came with an instruction booklet, needle case, doll, and embroidery patterns and it would date to the 1950's.
I look forward to receiving a photo to confirm the above and also a condition report.
Thanks.
Irene

QUESTION: Thank you for replying so soon, The machine is made in Britain, it says so above the emblem, It is in excellent condition, it sews well, not a scratch on it, only it didn't come with any books, needle case or anything like that just the machine and clamp for the table. I have included 2 photos for you to look at hope they are clear enough. thanks again

Answer
Ruth,
I have your text with the condition report, thank you.
I do not have any photos attached however.  Can you please resend the photos?
Thanks.
Irene

Ruth,
Thank you for the photos - this is always helpful to a positive identification.
Your machine dates to the 1950's as stated above and it is one of the more common ones. If the machine is in perfect condition then the estimated value would be in the $200 - $275 range.  If you have the original box that the machine was sold in, the value would increase.
Regards,
Irene

Expertise

I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing. I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.
