Question
I have purchased what was said to be a Duncan Phyfe Mahogany table and chairs.   Is there some mark or seal which would verfiy this? Is there a web site where I could check for similar tables/chairs? Thanks

Answer
Hi Elana
Nice to hear from you.
Here is a bit of history on Mr Phyfe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duncan_Phyfe
Elena your table and chairs are no doubt "in the style of Duncan Fhyfe" and not actually made by him.
It would be wonderful if all the old furniture was dated and signed by the maker but unfortunately thats not the case.
I have seen pieces with the description "attributted to Duncan Phyfe". That means that experts see workmanship in a piece of furniture that leads them to believe he made it.
Original pieces are rare and valuable.
There are lots of pictures available for you to look at for comparisons.
Look at these.

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
