Question

old chair
Hi, I got this chair at the thrift store for 5 bucks and my mom restored it for me. Do you know what this kind of seat (and back) is called? It's made of wood with little holes punched out, attached with brass tacks. i wonder if it's the original seating? Would you consider this a Winsor chair? and finally, what year would you put this at? Any other pertinent info much appreciated. Thanks so much for your help!

Answer
Thanks for your question
I would tend to call it a bentwood chair. Very popular style used a bunch in small restaurants and pubs, etc.
I think the seat and back are original. They had many of these wood seats to replace broken cane seats but with the back matching, I don't see why anyone would cover the broken cane AND add the back piece.
As far as a time goes, I would put it at the turn of the century, late 1800s to 1920s.It is a very cool chair, especially for 5 bucks and it looks like your mom did a great job.
