Question
QUESTION: My husband bought this in upstate New York in 1976.  He thought it was a
buttonholer.  The inscription on one side is Pat'd Dec 28 69.  D G Chase.  On
the other side it says KOIIT.  Any information would be appreciated as well as
your opinion as to any value.
Thank you

ANSWER: Hello Susan.  I'm afraid this item doesn't look like any sewing tool I've come across.  That's not to say it ISN'T a button hole cutter - just that I've not seen one like this.  You can try and search the US Patent Office database to see if you can come up with the item.  I Googled KOITT and found nothing remotely associated with this item.  I've also searched on D.G. Chase and come up empty handed as to a tie in to your item.  Sorry I can't be of more help.  Barbara

QUESTION: The inscription is actually KOIIT Ω (this mark follows it).  Here is a
picture of
the other side of it.  Do you think the 69 in the patent date is 1869?  Do you
have a web address for the Patent Office?
Thank you for your help.
Susan

Answer
Hello Susan.  I'm not sure about the patent date.  It sure looks too sophisticated a piece to be 1869, but I could be wrong.  With internet access, use your favorite search engine (google, etc.) to find the patent office archives.  Good luck with your search.  Barb
