Question
Hi. I have a sewing kit that is very old. It contains a lot of silver items ,crystal items, and ivory pieces. The name on it is Garnesson, palais royal. The box ,I think, is made of mahogany. The box is not in very good condition but the contents are in really good condition. Could you possibly tell me an approximate value or a connection to some one interested in purchasing it? Thanks.

Answer
Hello Mary.  Palais Royal (Royal Palace, Paris France) is a place as well as a term used to describe the unique style of mother of pearl sewing items.  They are quite desirable especially if they have the little enamel pansy on them.  It sounds like your piece is more of a work box than a sewing kit.  Without pictures, I cannot give you an approximate value, as condition is so important.  If you are looking for someone to purchase it, I would ask around for the most reputable antiques dealer in your area.  Or you may want to find a local appraiser (expect to pay for their knowledge).  If you are able to send me clear, good quality digital pictures, I'll see if I can be of any further help.  bacchino@twcny.rr.com  Barbara
