Question I have a 14k size 10 gold thimble. If you look inside at the top of the thimble it has a capitol A over a upside down bell with what looks like a piece of thread and a needle placed in the middle of the thread. The 14K sign is just below the bell. Have any info for me?
Answer Hello Barbara. You have a thimble made by Simons Bros. Co. of Philadelphia, PA - one of the few thimble makers still in business today. Their mark, inside the top of the thimble, is an Old English Style S in a shield shape. They do have a web site, so you can visit and see the mark. The A over their mark indicates the gold is of full karat weight. They also have a mark of a trefoil above the shield which would indicate the thimble was gold filled. That's not the case with your thimble. If it is marked 14K, then that is the full karat weight. Ten does indicate the size of the thimble, as you stated. Hope I've provided some useful information for you. Barbara
