About Irene Schwall
Expertise
I have been a collector of antique sewing tools and thimbles for over 30 years. I am also a dealer in this field and sell on eBay under the name -- serengeti2. Please note: I am NOT, and I repeat NOT an expert on antique or vintage domestic household sewing machines used for everyday home sewing -- I can offer help when it comes to TOY or miniature collectible sewing machines ONLY.

Experience
My expertise is in ANTIQUE sewing or needlework tools & thimbles, gold, silver, brass, ivory, bone etc. Modern thimbles are not necessarily my strong point but I may be able to help so don't hesitate to ask. I am also very well versed in the identification of Hallmarks on sewing collectibles.

Subject: New Royal sewing machine

Question
A New Royal sewing machine was handed down to me and I am trying to determine when it was made. It was made by Illinois Sewing Machine Co. in Chicago, IL. A number I found on it is 191876. Do you know anything about this or can you direct me to someone who might know. Thanks a lot.

Answer
Hello Michelle,
I am sorry but I am not an expert in domestic, home sewing machines. I specialize in toy or miniature sewing machines.

But, having said that, you might want to cut and paste in the folliwing link:
http://www.sil.si.edu/digitalcollections/trade-literature/sewing-machines/CF/sin...

This is the website for the Smithsonian Historical Trade Section and they have a very large catalog with information on domestic sewing machines.

Below is the link to the main page where you can type in your query for additional help.

Regards,
Irene
