Subject: antique rocking chair pin cushion

Question
I recently bought a wooden antique sewing box and with it came a ceramic rocking chair that has has HOME SWEET HOME on the top of the chair and a pin cusion on the seat and on the side of it there is a retractable tape measure that comes out. I was wondering if you would have any idea how old this might be and the approx. value of something like this. Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Hello Kristin.  The ceramic rocking chair is a contemporary piece more so than an antique (100 years or older).  They were mass produced, often with tourist destinations imprinted on them.  Your piece is probably from the 60s.  It is hard to determine a value without seeing the condition or knowing if the retractable measuring tape still works or seeing the condition of the fabric on the pin cushion.  However, these items appear frequently on eBay.  You might want to watch for items similar to yours to get a better idea of value, but I would say in excellent condition with the tape working, your piece is worth $10-$16.
