Subject: cast aluminum carousel horse

Question
Hi, I can't believe I stumbled upon a site with you on it. I have tried to find information about a carousel horse I have for some time now. I bought the horse at a yard sale about 6 years ago from a woman who remembered it for many years sitting in a laundry mat. A friend of mine said she believes it to be cast aluminum. It is full size and has a pole and base that is removable from the horse. The base is embossed with the words, "Enjoy drinking coca cola". My big question is how do I find out what color this piece was originally? The woman I got it from had repainted it (not too well) since the original paint was worn off. I have lined up an artist friend of mine to help restore it but I don't know where to go to see a picture of it. Were a lot of these made? I have never seen it before. Thanks for any information you may have on my horse.
                     Sincerely, Mary Brennan

Answer
These horses were (and still are) made at a foundry in Mexico.  There was no standard color scheme.  As a matter of fact, many, if not all were sold in the bare metal or in primer.   Paint it whatever colors you like.
