Answer
Hi Suzanne
Nice to hear from you.
This dresser is very similar to one my Mother had.
She always stored her wrist watch and Sunday gloves in the center  and this is no doubt what it was meant for.
I could find nothing about Mayfair, and have no knowledge of the company but thats a bit out of my line.
The dresser looks similar to what is called a waterfall dresser.
Called this because of the rounded front edge.
This is a veneered dresser.
The drawer veneer is done in what is called a bookended application.
The top left and right sections will be bookended as well but I can't see clearly.
I would almost say this dresser is art deco in style and made in the 1940's.
All the original hardware is intact...bonus LOL
The dresser has its original finish.
I see some damage, but nothing that cannot be repaired.
This dresser is a good candidate for a total "Extreme Makeover" LOL
Well a makeover anyway and really not too extreme.
Overall I very much like the piece.
These pieces finish beautifully and this one will too.
Suzanne if you need stripping and finishing info get back to me.
Hope I have helped a bit.
Kindest Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
