I've owned this horse since 1977. I think it is an 1890's era Armitage Herschell inside jumper for a traveling carousel. She measures 32" breast to rump and is 42" tall. She is missing the original horsehair tail, of course. She has a hole for a pole, but could this have been added? Since she has a flat bottom, was she originally on a track? Can you help me with the value? Since my children have no interest in inheriting it, I'd like to find someone who will appreciate it. Thank you very much for your time.

Answer This is indeed an Armitage Herschell figure created in the 1890's at North Tonawanda, New York. The horse was probably originally on a track, and later modified for the up and down mechanism.
These horses are pretty common. In good condition they sell for around $2,000.00
