Question
Hi, I read your reply to someone regarding cleaning a piece of furniture that might have mouse droppings on it.  I am writing about some painted wood framed photographs that have some droppings on them.  Is there anyway to safely clean and disinfect them without damaging the photos inside or the painted wood?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Debra
Nice to hear from you.
Yes apparently mouse droppings can make us sick.
Think I have since learned its the dust when they are agitated that causes the problem if the mice had a certain bug.
Not all mice do.
But they are not so dangerous that we need take extreme caution.
Use your vaccume cleaner to pick up the droppings.
Then wash the article as you would anything.
Use one of those masks if you are scared at all so you breath nothing in.
Kind regards

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
