Question
QUESTION: My mother passed away in Jan. and left me a carved horse from Coney Island, however I have not been able to locate any paperwork (I have a lot more looking to do). Are you able to give me any information about this horse from the picture??
IMAGE: Carousel Horse

ANSWER: This horse was carved by Charles Carmel of Coney Island around 1910.  It's impossible to tell if it actually rode a carousel located at Coney Island but it was produced there.

QUESTION: Thanks, are you able to give an approximate value? Based on reading your other posts, I can see that the market is very soft and it might not be a good time to sell.

Answer
Yes, the market is very soft, but it's questionable as to whether it will ever come back to where it was in the 1980's.   Right now, you may be able to get up to $6,000 for your horse.   There was a time when it would have sold for closer to $10,000.
