Question

What is this?
I have a small wooden basket that looks like a purse on the outside. It has plastic on the sides that is made to look like wicker. It has a brass looking slide latch on top. When you open it up there is nothing inside but the bare wood. I'm not concerned about value, it's just driving me crazy, as to what it might be. It may not even be old although, it looks old. Please help. I am usually good at researching things but this has me stumped.

Answer
Hi Kerry
Nice to hear from you.
Actually you are right.
This is a purse.
And a very nice one too in my opinion.
This type of purse was popular around the 1970's but could certainly fit in today as well.
I had a similar one that was white.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
