Question

Brass?
Can you identify this thing? Thanks.Jim

Answer
-

It's a skimmer, for removing gunge from the surface of various liquids while they cook/ferment/mature/etc.

Most are reproduction - I could not give an opinion as to the authenticity of this example without handling it. Authentic examples date from the mid 18th Century to the late 19th.
