Question
Will an antique iron head/footboard that has been professionally refurbished and even welded to a queen size bed frame continue to hold its value as an antique?

Answer
Hi Taryne
Nice to hear from you.
Interesting question I have never seen addressed before.
What I am going to say is just my personal opinion.
In my opinion, these old iron beds have absolutely no value sitting in a garage gathering rust because folks today have no use for them.
They cannot be used with todays beds unless they are adapted as you are thinking about.
So you tell me....which is the more valuable?
The useless bed in the garage gathering rust or the lovely professionally refurbished fully usable bed in your bedroom.
I think this tells you my answer LOL.
So enjoy your lovely old bed every day in your bedroom and not on occasional visits to the garage to watch it rust.
Great question
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
